I been busy working on tenant organizing the past while, with my peoples from the Hamilton Tenants Solidarity Network. On May 1st, a Rent Strike was declared at the Stoney Creek Towers in the east end of the city - as working class tenants, facing unaffordable rent increases, organized to withhold rent, to collectively protest the hikes, and to fight the displacement from their homes and community . The city's movers n shakers celebrate the new 'Hamilton renaissance' and fawn over every shiny new over-priced boutique and eatery that opens.. but, for the majority of Hamiltonians, the downtown has become an unaffordable hellhole, for yuppies and food tourists.. a living, breathing, developer-boner stroking real-estate ad.. that eats homes and neighbours and shits out empty EcDev slogans.
Tired of the booster-boy bullshit. And inspired by the working class badassery of the East Hamilton Rent Strikers.. I wrote and recorded this 5-song anti-gentrification tirade, THE STEAL CITY EP, to help raise some cash for the Rent Strike defense fund. I generally give my music away pretty freely.. but, for this one, PLEASE.. click on the Bandcamp link, and throw down some support for this important struggle! FIST UP!
